The Last Moment with Bob
After 10 years it’s time for a hiatus so it’s time for the Last Moment with Bob for awhile. A long long while. With the ascendancy of Fucko the Clown I don’t think the U.S. is coming back anytime soon. If Ever.
As I was doing the last bits of work on the site I kept remembering this Kurt Vonnegut quote:
When it became obvious what a dumb and cruel and spiritually and financially and militarily ruinous mistake our war in Vietnam was, every artist worth a damn in this country, every serious writer, painter, stand-up comedian, musician, actor and actress, you name it, came out against the thing. We formed what might be described as a laser beam of protest, with everybody aimed in the same direction, focused and intense. This weapon proved to have the power of a banana-cream pie three feet in diameter when dropped from a stepladder five-feet high.
After sifting through ten years of writing I felt I was more in the banana cream pie business than in the writing business. Especially now since we’ve been in Canada for the last six years. Living in Canada and critically writing about the U.S. is like wishing real hard that your neighbors would finally mow their lawns … and depose their dictator.
Ever since Fucko the Clown threw his Make America Great Again hat in the ring it’s been progressively harder to type about Fucko’s multiple ringed circus. Starting off with most of those shitty hats were made in China, Vietnam and Bangladesh. It’s just crazy. And the crazy is happening so fast I can really only find one coherent way to write about it.
Dear Diary,
Today Fucko did this thing. And that thing. And yesterday he did four unimaginable things. And Fucko’s son did a shit-pile of stupid things along with everybody else who works for or with Fucko.
At that point it’s not writing … it’s just list-making. And I don’t want to make lists. I agree with Masha Gessen when she talked about , “… the impossibility of going on to a democracy after Trump.”
